I just purchased a Remington 700 in a 300 RUM and am going to be putting a Nightforce 5.5-22x50 on it, was just wandering if I need a 20 moa rail or a 40 moa rail want to be able to shoot it out past 1000 yards but was also wanting to be able to zero at 100. Hoping to be able to make a 1500 yard shot when all done.

The 20 MOA rail should be enough to get you to 1500 with a 100 yard zero. With the RUM a 40 MOA base may not let you zero at 100. Your scope should have 100 MOA total adjustment so on paper after the 40 MOA base you would still have 10 MOA of adjustment to play with but it doesnt always work that way. I have 20's on my rifles and am looking at going to 30's but I am using Leupold scopes.
