My post office just told me that rifles can only be sent through the mail to the manufacturer for repair. Idk if this is an employee not knowing what they are talking about. Could some of you guys call your post office to confirm or deny this?
Not true. I send rifles through the USPS all the time. Back to customers, and to other FFL license holders.
An excerpt from the USPS regulations pertaining to shipping rifles:
11.3 Rifles and Shotguns
Although unloaded rifles and shotguns not precluded by 11.1.1e and 11.1.2 are mailable, mailers must comply with the Gun Control Act of 1968, Public Law 90-618, 18 USC 921, et seq., and the rules and regulations promulgated thereunder, 27 CFR 178, as well as state and local laws. The mailer may be required by the USPS to establish, by opening the parcel or by written certification, that the gun is unloaded and not precluded by 11.1.1e.
Over the years I have had the pleasure to dealing with claims from both the USPS and UPS systems...
I'm here to tell you, that it's much, much easier to get a claim paid from the USPS system than it is in the UPS system.
I will never deal with FedEx! I caught a local driver in a lie, and proved he falsified documents. I ran it all the way up to corporate! They dealt with it because they had to, but it was like pulling teeth.
Some of us know how to put a criminal case together, and are persistent...right Randy
