I had been toying with the idea of getting a 30 cal magnum for several months now. I sold my tried and true 300 RUM a few years ago because the barrel was too thin to thread for a suppressor.

I've been using a short barreled 308 suppressed for the last few years. It has proven effective on caribou and black bear but I always felt it was a bit on the light side for moose and bigger bears.

I had been looking at the Christensen ridgeline in 300 PRC and the seekins havak in 300 WM. The cabela's sale on the havak made the decision for me.

I had a vortex PST GEN II 5-25x50 sitting on a shelf in my gun room so I slapped it together in the lowest rings I could find locally. Warne mountain tech lows, I wish they were a bit lower as it's too high for a good cheek weld, it's close but not quite there. I ordered a kick eez adhesive 1/4" cheek pad, I'm hoping that will be enough.

I tried a box of Hornady precision hunter 200gr ELD-X. Accuracy was very impressive. 100 and 200 yards were excellent and 300 started out great with a nice little cluster for the first 3 rounds, then opened up.

I think it shows some real potential.
