Scope for testing rifles

Sightron scopes have a good reputation with the Benchrest crowd and are reasonable in cost.

I highly recommend an SIII series Sightron Scope. I have had a 10x50x60 SIII with a 2moa reticle, for years on my RAW1000X .22 Airgun. I use the elevation turret on silhouette targets constantly. Return to zero is always spot on as are the settings for the different distances we shoot. The the rifle has been dropped to the concrete twice, breaking the stock both times. After repair both the rifle and scope shoot as accurately as ever. Confirming the ruggedness of both.

I have been wanting to comment on this, but having trouble making the time for a thoughtful reply.

If I were looking for a diagnostic tool in an aiming device, I'd consider a fixed power scope and mechanically freezing the erector system in place.

That's a very interesting series......I think i finally have a visual at the difference between cheap and quality scopes. It would be very interesting to dive into a scope that won't hold zero and see what you could see. Thanks for posting that HandSkills!

I don't really want to buy a March-only because I know it'll breed dissatisfaction in my other scopes.

Worst scope purchase I've ever made was a march 3-24x52. Lost $1k reselling it and replaced it with a $1k scope that was functionally better.

I see some are pumping up the 5-42x56 gen2 PRS models as the best thing ever on the hide lately. Feels like what I thought I was buying as the "best LR hunting scope available" back when again. Fool me once..

I actually called and spoke with "Mark?" at NF about their scopes you see mentioned from time to time as "Mil-Spec". Specifically the Mil-Spec NXS. He said, those scopes are so bullet proof because they're basically sealed permanently with adhesives and they're also 90% unserviceable and not available for the GP to purchase.

I asked about the eye piece on the NXS being different than the NX8 and those he stated "those are designed to meet Mil-Spec requirements." Set the focus correctly and tighten it down and it's set for you. All you then need to use is your Parallax. He was great to chat with and thoroughly explained and shed light on some of the differences that now make so much sense.
