scope clearance

could any one tell me how much clearance i need from my scope to my barrel i have a lvsf 308 and just put a nikon gold on it and its almost touching the barrel but i hate to go to high rings.thanks

If it's not touching you should be fine. Can you slide a piece of paper between them without touching?

yeah i can slide a piece of paper. i can fold a piece and it will go through with a little wiggle.should that enough clearance. thanks

Are you planing on using flip up covers or anything such as that with it? If so there needs to be enough clearance for them and then some. As long as it's not touching that should be good. If it's an AO you may want to rotate it and check all around.

Put a piece of plain paper and a piece of carbon paper in the gap. Fire the rifle. If the carbon marks the plain sheet, you're too low.
