I am not going to steal your thread, but have to add in a quick story. The first long range rifle I ever built was a 300 Wby I re-barreled to .340 when I was 16- 30 in McGowen barrel. The barrel was way too skinny and the rifle kicked like an angry mule but killed deer with a 225 gr. Spire point like they had been hit by lightening.Yes the 340 is a great round. It'd say in the safe if I didn't have a WBY Classicmark in 340.
Perhaps the best all around old school N. American cartridge available.
