I don't speak Kommie, but I don't see how the reporter could verify anything, I couldn't even determine what cartridge was being shown in the brief display of the magazine

If you take the Russian reporter at his word that the rifle is a product of the Wagner Group, then it appears that it was obtained thru the "black market" repeatedly mentioned in the Politico EU Article.
It also appears that the Kommies are not all united with this Ukrainian invasion.

If the good guys are using the scoped Sako TRG 42 in 338 Lapua as a sniper weapon, that'd be a decent battlefield pickup rig, for pretty much anyone that could get their hands on said captured rifle. Maybe an artillery strike and when the smoke clears, Christmas in July. We did after all, trade the Merchant of Death, for a tall basketball player so....... the Merchant, probably still has his old ammo supply connections, over there.
