Reloder 26 in 280 Ackley

Luckily my standards are very low. I did think that shooting an 1.5 inch group at 200 with 4 shots that were in .5 gr increments with a sporter weight barrel with the Magneto hanging off the end seemed to warrant another look.
I probably don't need that much velocity to shoot Elk at 40-50 yards(ave distance of the 4 last season)but if I wanted to go slow I would get a 7mm/08.

Finally got some 10 round groups fired at 100, 300, and 600 yards...61 grains RL26, 160 Accubond at 3,020 fps.

100 and 300 were .47 MOA
600 was .51 MOA
Those are fired from a concrete bench using a Bulls Bag rest and a rear bag.... Not field positions.

Velocities with Reloder 26 are proving to be very stable (75 degrees today)...the 19 degree drop from 94 to 75 didn't change the velocities any at all...none.

By the end of my shooting today groups were beginning to open up a little, to about .7" MOA....I think she's trying to tell me it's time for a cleaning (~70 rounds since the last one)... Or it could just be me getting tired.

Either way... I'm gonna clean it now.

Guys,

I have found RL26 to be highly accurate in my 280AI. I haven't yet tested temperature sensitivity but I have high hopes.

Here are the particulars. Bartlein 5r 1:9 twist with Remington action (PTG bolt)
59.3 grn RL 26 using fireformed 280 Norma brass 0.0014 from lands. CCI BR2 primers and 168 grain hunting VLD.

2895 fps (avg).

One ragged hole 4 shot group (100 yds). SD of 3.8fps and ES of 9 fps. How do I post pictures of the group?

Old post, but is anyone still running RL26 in their 280ai? Thinking of a 20" 3, 3b or Carbon wrap 280ai barrel on my Tikka .308 I have laying in the safe. I would get a 9 twist for 160 AB for a lightweight mountain rifle. I already have a 7 saum with 26" proof barrel and I know the AI has the same capacity. Just thinking short for running my ultra 7 can. Looks like RL26 should push the 160's at 2850+ in a 20".
