reloading the 10 mm for pistols

Hey, I have been reloading my 10 mm when recently I ran out of the powder. Found some cans of 4756 and tried it with the 155gr. bullets. A starting load of 8.8ish gave very good accuracy; but recoil was pretty strong , for a starting load.
Have any of you tried this powder for either the 155s or 180s? Results?
Oh, my pistol is a custom built 1911 style, a Colt Delta Elite.
