Just started reloading. I have been using RL 22 in my .300 win. What would be the next likely choice of powders? Best group so far 72 grs of RL 22 and 180 SGK. Have some Accubonds and some Triple Shox to try. Thanks

I've used H4831sc, H1000, Re-22 in my 300 WM with 200 gr bullets all with good results. Also heard good things about H4350, Imr 4831, and Imr 7828.

I too have had excellent results from H4831, H4831SC and H1000. The H1000 is at its best with the heavier bullets, but the 4831s are great powders for the bullet weight you are talking about.

The Hodgdon powders (H4350,H4831sc, etc.) are Extreme powders. This means that they are not sensitive to temperature changes and will shoot very near your average speed no matter the outside temperature. Very handy for hunting applications. IMR powders are not rated as temperature stable and can very 100+ fps as temperature varies. Just a thought when trying to work up a new load. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

The 4350 sounds like a good bet. I get the opportunity to shoot mostly in the summer, so the temperature could be a factor. Thanks alot guys

H4831 has been my best and most consistent powder choice in my 300 WM w/ 180 HDY HPBTs, 180, 190, & 200 MKs. I like 73 grns under the 190s and 73.5-74 w/ the 180s. Velocity w/ the 190s and 180s is around 2900 @ 12' from a 26" tube.

IMR 7828 has been my second best powder in that round w/ IMR 4350 nipping close behind. The 4350 seemed to provide low SD in velocity but groups were erratic.

Good Luck!
