Good Day Everyone!!!
We have several Pardner (New England Firearms) 12 ga Pump Shotguns 2/3" & 3" Shells, that have great wood, Vent Rib, Crome Lined Barrels and 18.5". We use for Home Protection. We are thinking of refinishing the wood, Cerakoting the Metal and then put a Poly Choke on the Barrel. Could use for Turkey & Home Protection!
Also going to have extra 28" Ribbed Barrels with screw in chokes (or Poly Choke).
Anyone Thread a Barrel to put a Poly Choke on it ????
Would like some guidance if you have done it. We have a full Machine Shop but never installed Chokes on barrels.
These Pardner Shotguns are very well built and I think better/stronger than an 870.

Probably should post on a Shotgun Forum. Just like to get opinions from all of you!

Thanks
Len & Jill

Absolutely no help on installing sorry

I've got a question which ultimately shows how much I've been out of the shotgun field for as I've never heard of a poly choke let alone fitting one

So what are the advantages /disadvantages of these chokes & are they available as a replacement

Sorry for derail
Cheers

Poly chock is threaded on the outside and is adjustable by hand. Instead of inside and changing invector chokes

Thanks

Buck

Hey Fordy
Hope that you and your family are doing well.
I bought a Rem 1100 Mag in 1982 and wanted more options to shoot because I hunted Quail, Dove, Grouse, Pheasent, Ducks, Geese so I drove to Hartford CT. that was not far from me and had Poly Choke Put one of their Chokes on my new 1100. Cost me around $50 US installed. See the attached receipt. The adjustable choke gives you more options while hunting in the field.
Since 1982 the Company was sold several times and can still find Poly Chokes out there for around $100.00
I figured if I put one on the 18.5" Barrel we have on our home defense shotgun, we can also use it for Turkey.
They have Poly Chokes that you can "Screw in" just like a regular Choke. I will need to thread the inside of the Barrel to use one of these.
The 1100 Mag in the pictures is the one from 1982 and I changed out the Wood for Camo. I still have the wood. My 1100 Mag has shot many many Birds and is still in pristine condition (I take care of my firearms).

I have an old New Haven 600AT which is the same as the Mossberg 500 that came with the "C-lect Choke", same as the one in the picture. It allows you to have any choke you desire from full to cylinder in an instant. I never patterned to to check the difference, its a pump, but it was given to me and I will pass it on to my son. , or daughter.

Thanks for that guys all makes sense now as I was in muppet land of thinking poly as as in a polymer/plastic 😱😱& let alone thinking on how can that possibly work 🤷‍♂️but technology may have raised the bar on possibilities of what is possible with polymers these days , so I just ask to clarify in my mixed up mind

Here's where my mind went after ticking on it a bit
On my farm we deal a fair bit in poly pipe for irrigation & stock water lines & just assumed a choke tube made out of poly in the threaded rises we use 🤪

Yes a total muppet moment 🤣 but learn I have Thank you & for the pictures also

Hope you get it all sorted len
Cheers

Hey Fordy
I found a place to buy aftermarket Rem 870 Barrels.
Up until now (six years) I was looking for replacement barrels and they wanted $4-500.00 for Rem Barrels.
We just (45 min ago) bought several REM 870 - 28" Vent Ribbed Barrels 2.75" - 3" Shells with (3) Chokes to put on the Pardner Shotguns that have the 18.5" Barrels. Going to scrap putting Poly Chokes on the 18.5" we have.
So now we will finish the Pardners' NEF and have two barrels for each-Home defense and Hunting with (3) Chokes.
Thanks much everyone!

I've installed a dozen or so on Saiga-12 shotguns. Pretty simple. Spin the barrel up in the lathe with a center in the muzzle. You'll need to turn the OD so it's concentric with the ID, then thread the barrel and screw the choke on. You'll have to play with threads a bit to get it to land at top-dead-center when it's tight or add some loctite.

Hey Tony
Thanks
They have the Poly Choke II that screws into the Barrel like regular chokes. If i was to do a Poly Choke I would have to do an outside "OD" of the barrel because the barrel being cut to 18.5" would have a big "ID" and could not be threaded for Chokes.
If We proceed I will get a Poly Choke for the OD and spin it. Right now I can get a 18.5" with Chokes for around $100.00 about the same or less than buying a Poly Choke.
Thanks Again
Len & Jill

I have messed with poly chokes a bit.....the ones I have (3-4) of them are solder on. So I can't help on the threading portion, but I imagine they are pretty fine threads. I turned down the outer diameter to a tight solder fit and used Force 44 to old them one.

Coyote, have you checked the OD at 18.5"? Those things are a direct copy of an 870 which are not tapered on the OD. Hence you can chop an 870 barrel to d••m near any length and still thread it for Rem-chokes.
