Newbie wanting long range whitetail gun

Hello everyone! this has been talked about a 1000 times or more im sure but whats everybodys opinion the ultimate long range hunting gun and caliber for whitetails? Iv read alittle on the 338 edge and the 270 allen. Iwas hoping to keep in the $1500 dollar range. Thanks for your thoughts ahead of time
