Hi Guys

I am a new member to Long Range Hunting and can't wait to learn a whole bunch from you guys and make new friends.

A bit of background: I am 43 and live in Kwazulu Natal, South Africa. I have been hunt crazy my entire life and professional hunted for a number of years. Countries hunted in; South Africa, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda, CAR, Tunisia. I am no longer in the Professional hunting game but still have an interest in a +40 000 acre free range property where I focus hard on hunting big kudu, nyala and bushbuck. Hunting is in the family and my sister is married to Jeff Rann who has a bunch of concessions in Botswana, Zambia and Tanzania. He also owns the 777 Ranch.

Big kudu are my passion and the terrain in which I do a lot of hunting is very mountainous with a number of drainages running through it. It is also very thickly vegetated and the shots can be very long. In a lot of instances you spot game in clearings in the thick bush, but simply can't get close enough to make the shot using conventional tackle. It is perfect long range country.

I don't have a proper long range rig and have set up a Dakota model 76 in 375H&H loaded with 270 gr heads at 2700fps. The rifle wears a Swarovski Z6 2.5-15x44 dial in scope and I practice out to 500 yards, though I have never taken a shot at game at that distance. I know I should get a long range rig but I simply lack the insight as to what will work best. I guess that the opportunity to learn, combined with the opportunity to hook up with a bunch of hunt fanatics has drawn to become a member. I look forward to the journey.

Best regards
Pete Kennedy
