Just moved to the great state of Montana, looking forward to some Elk. I just found a Sako M995 in .338 Winchester Mag, 3-9 Leupold on it. Took it to the range today and found I am pretty good out to 300 yards, but need some practice past that. Looking forward to learning from all and maybe having something to contribute someday besides enthusiasm.
First question, do I need better glass?

You don't say whether your Leupold is a VX-1, VX-2, or VX-3. However, for hunting Montana I'd say that if you're currently relying on the Leupold 3 - 9 you need something in the range of 3.5 - 14. There's nothing objectionable, IMO, in Leupold products (I have two of them myself) so the "glass" they offer is fine.
