New gun and scope set up

Putting together a Cooper 56 Classic in 257 Wby Mag with a 26" barrel.
Scope considering is a Night Force SHV 4-14 56.
Adding to my current .223 varmit gun and 7 mm Rem mag.
Will use gun for white tails in Michigan, hog in PA and hopefully a trip west for Prong Horn next year.
My long shots in the East are 250 yards and West I would take no more than 500 yards.

Is this scope to powerful on the low end, night force also has a SHV 3-10 x 42 would this be a better set up?
Will be shooting Factory Norma and Hornady ammo.

You will not be over scoped with the 4X. Lots of guys use fix 6X. I have a 5-25X and practice off hand on 12X so that when I go hunting and put it on 5X it gives me a huge view.
