Need Help with Savage 340 .222

I am trying to sight in a new scope but am having problem with scatter. I am getting about 4" scatter at 100 yrds. I have tried 50 G v-max and factory 50gr soft points. I get 2-3 shots within 1" then next shoot will be 4" off L-R, next shoot will also be 4" off. Please help...

are the mounts and rings tight ? did the gun shoot ok before you replaced the scope ? are the stock screws tight ? did you ding the barrel crown with a bore sighter ? these are a couple of ideas that I have . Jim
