I'm considering selling a rifle to help fund a new project but I'm not sure were to start price wise. The rifle is a 300 WM built from a Remington 700 SPS and I had the action trued and mounted on a Mcmillan stock, with a pac-nor barrel. A local gun smith in northern CA built it for me (Matt Huston) and it shoots sub MOA with factory ammo. It has a Leupold Mark 4 8.5X 25 mounted on it. It's more of a heavy target rifle and I want to replace it with a lighter hunting rig.

The rifle is in really good condition and probably had less than 200 rds down the pipe. I was hoping to try and get around $1500. Do you all think that is a good price or am I "wishing" it was worth more then it is?

I think you're a little low at the $1500 mark if it comes with the scope. I'd personally start around $2k and go from there.

I agree with Cody, but I'd say…separate them and sell them that way. Harder to sell a rifle with a scope because everyone wants/likes something different.

But both should bring somewhere in the range/neighborhood of what Cody is thinking.

Scope $750ish since it's the 8.5-25. rifle IMO is worth $1200 with a Pacnor and McMillan stock on a trued action to the right guy. Any less than $1000 for that gun is low in my opinion.

Thanks for the input. What do you guys think the scope is worth? It's an older model. Is $500 a good place to start?
Being a mk4, don't sell it for any less than $800. The standard vx3 8.5-25 pull $7-800 easily depending on reticles.

I have been watching 300 win mag and 300 rum factory Remington rifles selling on gunbroker for around $1k. I agree if you sell it for less than $1k you're selling yourself short. I think $1200 would be a fair price for both the buyer and seller.

Looks like a nice rifle. Since you had it built, I'd make a list of the cost of all the parts you bought and gunsmithing costs. Take that total cost and subtract what you think is fair for it being used.

As for your scope. As mentioned above the old scopes are tricky when it comes to selling. You need to find the right buyer or practically give it away. I have seen the mark for 4.5-14 sell for less then $600. IMHO the problem with the older scopes is that many companies have caught up and can offer equal or better scopes at what you would think the older scopes would be worth.

Hope you get what your hopeing for. Really looks like a nice rifle.
