Some calls from home had me cut short a 7 day muley hunt in Arizona today but it turned out okay. My longtime friend and I glassed a whole bunch and could reliably find the same herd in one particular location day after day. 15 animals of which had 4 small bucks I really didn't want to take. I am looking for 4x4 and up. My friend had just returned from Kaibab with tag soup. After the call came in to get home, I was thinking next year.
My friend said he was out of any deer meat in the fridge and since I was a "quitter" why don't we go get one of those 4 bucks?
Being my best friend, I decided it was something that would get him some deer meat and me, some of his great cooking.
I was using my 280AI I just named "Black Betty, Bambalam" after a nice Jack and Coke one evening, lol.
It was a 200 yard shot off of Primos shooting sticks, standing. I was using the 131grain Hammer Hunter running at 3320 fps. When it hit the deer I could see the deer get knocked into next Sunday. He got back up and went 10 feet.
So a breakfast sized buck it is!
