Mountain rifles inc. palmer ak

Does anybody have any info on Mountain Rifles. I recently received a rifle chambered in 300 Weatherby. The barrel has Mountain Rifles engraved on it but no other identifying marks that I can find. I'd like to find out what the action is. I am NOT familiar enough with all the different manufacturers to identify one from another. Does anyone have any insight to M.R.Inc.? I know that the owner has passed away some time ago. This rifle was delivered in Jan of 1997. There was a guy who was a member here a long time back that had info on them but he seems to be long gone. Thanks!!!

A pic would help more than anything. Montana Rifle co now makes their own actions Model 1999 I own 3 of them. I am not sure what they used in 1997. You could call them and ask they are in Montana.

It's not a Montana Rifle. It is a Mountain Rifle Inc. Here's some pix.

Sorry I miss read your post. I have no idea nor have I ever heard of Mountain Rifle. It appears to be a customized Rem 700 but I am certainly no expert. Perhaps someone with more info will chime in.

The bolt knob looks like a Remington the action is hard to tell but it looks like a Remington with some machining done on the action.

They are Remington Actions that have been modified. Made in Palmer, Alaska. That is a interesting set of rings and mounts as well.

Cool! Thanks for the info. While I've been around guns most of my life, I never got into which is which. I have a small collection of antique .22s and a 1926 16ga. Belgium Browning but never paid much attention to what they are. If I needed a gun for a purpose I'd just get whatever filled the bill. This rifle is from the family of a very good friend who passed away. I figured I owed it to him to find out as much as I can about it.

Best I can find out they are no longer in business. I did find a couple for sale one on a Rem 700 and one on a Winchester Model 70. Cabelas has one.

Yep. The owner was killed some years ago in a hunting accident. What I was able to gather was the company closed soon after. I think that Cabela's ad is pretty old.

there is a gunsmith shop in Palmer if you can find it they would know and they are now doing some ulta light rifles they should know something

The rings and bases are from Conetrol. The action is definitely Remington.
