I need some advice in starting a load development for a brand new Howa 1500 in 7 RM. Bought it to use primarily on elk up to 500 yards.

I have an abundance of IMR 4831 and Nosler ABLR 175 gr. This is my first choice for components to use.

Other options I have, for powder is H 4350, IMR 4350 and Varget
I also have Hammer 120 HH and Nosler AB 160

I appreciate any load data and advice you can provide. It might save me a lot of wasted powder and bullets.

The 160's and 4831 is agreeably a great start. The 175's are on the edge weight wise. The 4831 is the best bet, but possibly a slower powder would be in order for that heavy a bullet. I see nothing but good reviews on the Hammers and would be better suited for the 4831. Components are so difficult to find try what you have and see if you discover an accurate load. My inlaw's 700 in 7Mag has a 1:925 twist and shoots 168 Bergers very well with H1000. Good luck Edit : Just looked, the Howa 7Mag has a 1:9 1/2 barrel twist.

Thanks for your input on where to start. The think I like about the Howa is the long magazine box is. I can seat to the lands and still fit the rounds in the magazine. I have a 300 SAUM that shoots great as a single shot. On the Howa 7 RM I will take your advice and start with the Nosler 160's and IMR 4831. I might try a few tests of the Hammer 120's. I took my mule deer this year with the 300 SAUM with 160 Hammer. The buck was dead before he hit the ground.
