I always put my rifle in a soft case which is then put into a SKB hard case for travel. This covers all the bases.
FWIW - I spray one soft case with tent waterproofing and keep the rifle cased in rainy weather.
Last time I was there 3 years ago chasing Nilgai they had sticks, did not ask x a soft case, if you have snake boots bring them, we see rattlesnake Year round, just saw a 6 feet one last week in a ranch I was hunting here in South TX

Definitely bring snake boots, weather may be as high as 80 in January. That will bring the snakes out during a sunny day.

Or, you could be like my buddies dad. He "killed" one, picked it up, took it to the taxidermist, dropped it on the floor. It came back to, and had them hemmed up in a corner with nothing to use to hit it!!!!
