If I may chime in here.
Two things that are incredibly important in a Kestrel and long range shooting applications. One is density altitude. This is what the bullet "feels" as it travels through the air. Only 4000 series and up Kestrels have this. The second is bluetooth connectivity. The USB adapter and the Bluetooth upgrade cost the same. So if you plan to upgrade your Kestrel with the latest and greatest software in the future get the Bluetooth, the cost is the same but capabilities are phenomenal.
When it comes to applications Applied Ballistics is a platform. To discuss all of it would take literally a book (We have those). But the short and sweet. You can create a weapons profile, with any of the Litz Curves for free if you own a Kestrel 4500AB model and upload it to the Kestrel. If you choose to go the AB Android route then you have to buy each custom curve. Software is 30$ curves are a couple dollars each. If you buy AB Tactical then all curves are provided as well as the only mobile platform that allows you to upload a profile from a phone to a Kestrel. No other app can do this. The final option you have is Kestrel Companion. This is a mirror of the Kestrel Screen on your Phone. The only thing you can do is get read outs, and change the range.
This is a platform so their are a lot of features not covered. But I can tell you this, the system is solid, I test it myself. Also we are here on the forums. When I catch threads like this I am here to help, and answer questions (community support is something we pride ourselves on). So if you have any questions please feel free to ask.
The curves you get with a Kestrel 4500 AB, or Applied Ballistics apps are G1, G7, and the Applied Ballistics Custom Curves. We have a full time lab that tests ballistics and updates the information regularly. Our curves are known to be incredibly accurate even when compared to G7.
If you have anything you would like to ask, please feel free to. Or email me.
