Hi there. I'm a mid-thirties western archery guy new to the world of rifle shooting. I recently used a rifle for the first time in many years on a desert bighorn hunt here in Nevada. I used my grandfather's Mauser Sporter in 270 Win and made a perfect heart shot on a nice 160+ ram at a little under 100 yards. Although I barely practiced beyond 200 yards, I did enjoy learning to shoot a rifle again. I also jumped into reloading and quickly tuned up an accurate accubond load for the rifle.
I'm interested in getting something that can reach out a little further than this older rifle can as a fun side project. I'm not sure exactly what's sparking this drive for rifle shooting, but I'm going to see where it goes. Who knows, rather than deer or elk at 40 yards, maybe I'll take them at 400 yards in the future.
I blame David Petzal a bit for my interest in rifles. I've read his articles for years and they're always entertaining.
I perused the classifieds which spurred me to sign up for an account. I can tell there's a lot of knowledge on this forum and I look forward to absorbing what I can. Maybe someday I'll even be able to contribute.
