I posted in another thread that the next project will be a shorty suppressed 20 inch 300WM. Carbon Six CFW on order, 4-6 months?
The plan was to exercise the military discount and get a Stiller LA Magnum produced by the new owners. Two days ago my friend Mike B surprised me with a Remington's SS RR prefix LA Magnum face action. A gift I can't say no.
Action had some crud, but cleaned up. Not brand new clean, but close enough to run with. Yesterday I got bored and decided to start on this interim rifle.
A few years back, a local hunter bought a SS Remington 700 for the receiver, he gave me the unfired barrel when he re-barreled the action with a Bartlein. Who knows the factory barrel might be a diamond in the rough. Test fitted to the action the headspace was 0.006 over GO.
I chucked it up in the 1236 lathe indicated 2 points in the chamber, adjusted headspace to where it closes on a dummy FGGM 190s, but not on a Scotch tape. This is all the ammo I plan to use in this rifle. Mainly to see how it shoots at 26, then cut it down to 20 and shoot suppressed. Interim till I get the 20 inch Carbon Six. I threaded the muzzle 5/8x24, barrel did not meat at the end, otherwise I would have cut 3/4x24, my preference for 30 cal barrels.
Today, I grabbed an ADL stock given to me by one of the local gunsmiths to mock up on the barreled receiver. No idea on the make. It has been in the shop for at least 3 years. The recoil lug did not fit in the slot, had to open the slot wide enough for bedding.
As I mentioned this is an exercise to establish precision, and velocity of FGMM 190s in this mix naster. Then cut it to 20, and add suppressor.
