In the Ear? Really???

How come if it was raining, the ground in all the picture is dry?....Are you setting us up again with one of your fabrications? The areas in bold, above are what I've come to associate with you, but was surprised you'd write them down. I do have to give you credit for that big hog though, that one was worth posting!

Scrmblr - Sound utterly boring, but also sounds typical of the crap I've come to associate with TV.

Very true! I've got hundreds of channels on satellite cable, but I watch less than a dozen. It amazes me that there is SO crap on TV. My wife stays home with our baby and has lots of time on her hands and will watch one of the Real Housewives of somewhere, which has to be one of the ten most useless programs ever conceived. I cannot understand how people can sit there and watch it for hours.

But she says the same thing about The Outdoor Channel...

OK djones, we hit the 150 pages, so you only have to tough it out for about 620 more views for the 50,000 views mark and then you can retire..........Who'da thunk it?.

What you going to do with your $5.00? .........

If this was the view through my windshield momentarily there would be several thumps coming from the bottom of my pickup followed by a whole lot of squealing.

I've tried running them over several times without success. I've been to traffic school in 5 states for speeding, so I'm pretty sure it's not me. When you are driving down on a hog, they become the 4 legged version of Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, and Emmitt Smith all rolled into one.

I did use my Cherokee to kill a hog several years ago. I had a successful day of hunting and only had 3 bullets left for my .308. I shot a hog twice in the shoulder and one in the neck. Darn thing still didn't die. It was making some god awful noises, and I didn't want to just drive off and leave it. Only thing I could think of was running it over, so I ran him over then backed up and parked my rear driver's side tired on his chest. Didn't take long after that for him to expire.

I cannot for the life of me figure out where you come up with all this stuff unless it's actually a part of your lifestyle. While I appreciated the suggestions, I think I'll pass on this. I do not think you really believe I don't watch TV and Movies, but haven't ever seen the Rocky Horror movie, if this is what you are referring to!

I Figured you'd evade any questions too embarrassing to you!

Nice picture of a sounder, but why did you take the time to Photo them instead of just shooting them?....Let me guess, hadn't been able to bum any ammo from your buddies? They actually look a lot like cows in the Photo, but if taken recently, looks like all that rain really helped out the countryside, considering that it's July. Makes that part of Texas look like nice country for a change.

paaaack,
i complained to lrh that you broke into my acct and posted lewd pics of me and family. i requested they close your acct but i guess you just got your 24th pm reprimand and pics confiscated.

Well, since you are retiring anyway, don't guess me getting one more reprimand will make all that much difference, even though I'm curious about how I got your pictures from your family album!

the pistolero hog was part of a group that came around a berm as i was coming from the other direction. we literally ran into each other. they divided and went on both sides of me. my rifle was strapped across my chest, and i only had time to pistol whip one before they realized their mistake.

And you only had ONE bullet?....Jeez.....if you had 7 + 1, there should be 7 + 1 hogs laying there. You probably need to take a class in instinct shooting for Pistols. Classes are about 4 Hours a day for a week for pistol, a week for rifle, not all that expensive and are one of the best things you can learn. My in-laws paid for both classes before I went to Vietnam and it saved my butt several times. By the end of class, you can put a .22 round through the middle of a thrown washer (about 2") without hitting the edges of the washer and can actually see the round go through. Starts out with a BB gun and is a kick in the butt to learn.

Of course with that AR you shoot and and all the attachments, if the rifle had legs, it wouldn't need you to hunt! Really curious to see how well you would do over Iron sights and a range of about 10 yards on a moving target coming right at you. Well, since you insist on retiring, will probably never know.

Got to go look around the LRH site...there's got to be somewhere I can relocate, but Hogs are all I get to hunt anymore, if very infrequently. I wonder if reprimands transfer between threads?

djones,

Is the photo typical of the terrain where you hunt? In this part of SC, the only open spaces around are (1) the airport, and (2) agricultural fields. We just don't have open spaces around here due to the crops and the timber. Part of the problem with hunting hogs around here is that the crops are getting tall enough that you can't see the hogs wandering about. Corn is between 4-6 feet tall, soybeans are getting upwards of 3' tall, tobacco is between 4'-5' tall, the cotton is 2'-3.5' tall, and soybeans are about 2'-3' tall. We have to hunt over bait, or we just can't see them due to the crops/trees. I drove around yesterday looking for hogs, but there could have been 20 hogs wandering around in the fields hidden by the crops and I'd never have known.

Last weekend, I used a bush hog to cut about 5 acres of a field to clear the field of view. I've got three 3' deep holes baited with corn. I check again this morning, and nothing has touched them. I'll go back this weekend to check the holes and pull the trail camera memory cards.

Well, since djones has decided he wants to retire, which is a sleazy way of saying that he can't keep up any more, I think it would be a shame if all those Hog pictures he has posted just somehow go to waste or disappear into abyss of the internet, so I have decided that it is up to me to make sure that he is remembered on the Hog forum.

With that and only that, except for a little profit, in mind, I have decided to write the story of his life and post it here where his fame, or the lack thereof, will be prominently displayed for future generations of Long Range Hunters.

From his earliest days of laying in his crib and trying to pee on Fly's on the ceiling, with predictable results, his whole life has been one of contention, competition and disaster after disaster, not the least being the introduction to the Packrat.

The story as written is one of sadness, despair and sheer desperation in trying to carve out a niche for himself in a competitive world where he is singularly unqualified to compete!

With that introduction, I bring you my latest book:

After posting that last disparaging post about djones, I went outside on the back patio and was reading through the brochure from Harbor Freight that arrived in the mail today. I heard some of the neighbors talking while walking their dogs on the side street adjoining the house and really wasn't paying much attention when I heard a scrabbling noise on top of the Masonry wall and a mountain lion came bounding over the wall, shot past me about 10' away and kept on going to end of the property and over the other wall. Then I noticed that the dogs out on the street were going crazy.

Wasn't a big cat, about half grown at a guess, and seemed to be fairly skinny and maybe 60 - 80 pounds. Happened entirely too fast and I didn't even have a chance to get concerned till it was all over. Now it has rained sporadically here lately as the Monsoons are starting up so would think there wouldn't be any reason for them to be down here in a housing area, except maybe feral cats.

I walked over to the wall and the people there with the dogs couldn't figure out why their dogs were going crazy and trying to get over my wall and they didn't even have a flashlight and it was well after dark. I explained what had happened and they were shocked that we had mountain Lions running around the project. I also explained to them that we had killed about 10 rattlesnakes last year on the streets in the area where they were walking and thought the lady was going to have a coronary. They had only moved in about 2 months ago and thought that the area was just about the same as Minnesota. Well guess not!

Like I said, happened too fast to bother me then, but will start carrying my pistol out at night, just in case, because when it cools down in the evenings, I like to sit outside and either read or browse the paper. Don't think I would get attacked, but really, who knows, and is only the 3rd Mountain Lion I've seen in 10 years, but all sightings have been in the last year and a half or so. Seems to be getting worse. If they'd let us hunt a couple of them I think they'd stay away, but this is still an Archery only hunting zone. Will let my neighbor John know tomorrow, maybe we can do something about them. Don't know yet, but they are coming down from the hills.

I know djones, no picture, didn't happen......Oh well.

that's when you need to mash on the brake and the gas at the same time

djones,

Is the photo typical of the terrain where you hunt?
no. hunt mostly agriculture. that spot is a ranch and most hunting goes on at the canyon seen in the distance.

... I have decided to write the story of [djones'] life...
it's time you looked into at least a part time job

After posting that last disparaging post about djones, I went outside on the back patio and was reading through the GAY PORN ON MY IPAD...

no pic required. you have a free pass on this one.

.....scrmblr1982cj8, see if one of your buddies has a drone that you guys can fly over a field. From the air you ought to be able to see if thee is any hog damage and plan accordingly!

I don't know anyone with a drone, but that is a good idea.

I've got access to about a dozen properties to hunt hogs. Unfortunately the hogs are nowhere to be found. I've been able to pull up to within about 100 yards of my bait holes at night with the pickup truck lights turned off and not scare off the hogs when they are feeding. My hunting areas are in agricultural areas, so they are used to hearing trucks and tractors. I can do drive by and not ruin the area. If I can get my daughter to sleep at a reasonable time tonight, I'll head out about 3 in the morning tomorrow and see if the hogs have shown up at any of the bait holes.
