Was just given a un-opened 1 lb. cannister of Hercules 2400 Rifle Powder. What would this be used for?
I have a .270 Win and will be getting into reloading for this rifle. Will this work?

I think not...

It's a relatively fast burning powder primarily designed for magnum revolver cartridges. I've used it in 44 Mag, 454 Casull, 45 Long Colt, and 357 Mag cartridges.

I do not think it will be useful for loading 270 Win.

Google search "Alliant 2400 load data"...

I think this 1lb can dates back to the 1950s or 1960s.
I read that 2400 was first manufactured in 1932.

Thanks for the info. I have a .357 Smith so I might just keep it to load for that gun.

Unless 2400's characteristics have changed it is a stable powder in lead rifle bullet loads in that it is not sensitive as to its position within the case. Makes very accurate all lead rifle bullet loads.
