Henry Arms

Jersey was a tad better than New Yawk for Anthony and his Henry startup bizness, but as we all expected, the move to a freedom state was inevitable.

I have four Henry rifles, a lever and single each, in both .45-70 and .44Mag - all made in Rice Lake, WI, all are Superb firearms.
 
I bought an early 45-70 built in Rice Lake. Hunt not too far from there, so thought it was pretty cool to own a gun built in the area.

It's been good, but round count isn't very high.

Be nice if they developed an accurate bolt, too, but maybe the market is too tight right now? I know substantial parts for the Springfield way points were being produced someplace near Marshfield, WI, wich isn't terribly far from Rib Lake.

The two Henry .45-70s I have are an H010GCC lever and an H015-4570 break open single. Both sport 22" tubes and 1:20 rifling. They both have slick, smooth, tight actions, and perfect triggers. I equipped and used both with either glass or irons, currently keep the lever with a scope and the single with peeps. I load both with paper patched bullets, either smokeless to the groove or black powder to the bore. A .45-70 will kill any critter in North America, 4 or 2 legged, don't matter. And long range, out to 800 yards? NO problem for minute-of-torso at the least. You will not go wrong with any Henry, and their customer service is second to none.

Dittos for my Henry .44 Magnum lever and single.
 
Henry X in 357 for me, bought late last summer. Set up with some of their accessories. The fluorescent sights that came on it were nice, but I added a Holosun gold dot that was a closeout special last sunmer.

A few weeks ago I received a recall notice on the Holosun. Seems the battery compartment did not meet safety standards for preventing a child from accessing and ingesting the battery. I am not sending the two I bought back to be "fixed"!

My Henry is still virgin/unfired, looking forward to breaking her in very soon at a private nearby range that I just joined. There is some really nice tactical gear (made in USA) for lever actions, but to trick one out like that costs as much, or more, than the price of the firearm if you also want an optic.
 
Bought a LongRanger model in .308, sold it three weeks later at a substantial loss.you couldn't keep five shots in a 5 inch shoot N See at 100 yards. Tried very hard to find something it liked, beautiful lever action rifle. Just very poor accuracy.
My .44 Mag cowboy rifle was wonderful. No complaints. Go figure.

Good to know because I was contemplating getting one in that caliber, too. I have had a subscription to Gun-Tests, I do not recall them testing that model, but I have not checked database, either.

I wonder if yours was an aberration, did you ever inquire from Henry regarding the poor accuracy?
 
My 1st Henry was a Garden Gun!… Don't laugh, I can kill mice and problem birds @35 ft. No problem! My most recent Henry is a Color Case Hardened 45/70 with Octagonal barrel… No Doubt About It that it is My Most Favoriteist Gun In The Whole World!!!, especially out of the 40+ guns I own! I suppose my Next Henry will be an Original Henry that I can Load On Sunday and Shoot ALL WEEK! I LOVE THE HENRYS!!!!!!!

Its possible, that was when the first came out. Maybe they have fixed whatever the problem was. I thought it would be a great rifle. Short, fast and accurate. Two out of three, eh!
I tried factory, and hand loads. It just shot like a cylinder bore shotgun. You couldn't get it to even get two shots close enough together to call it a group.

I've owned three of them. Had a 357 I used in cowboy action shooting. It was superb. The .44 Mag just cut a jagged hole at fifty yards.
If you want to shoot.38 Spl. in the 357 you need to load them to 357 length to function well. That's with cast bullets. Never tried jacket 38's

You were not alone. There is a thread here from 2017 where someone here knew someone that had one with the same issue
