Happy Memorial Day Weekend, everyone!

I am happy to be with my friends, my family, this day and every other day. Those that have served, and those that gave their lives so that we can be happy, are the reason for this holiday. I realize that this day, or any other is not the best for some, but that is no reason to not enjoy the freedom that they have given us, and to be happy for it.

I stormed the beaches of Normandy for a different reason. When I was stationed at RAF Lakenheath, UK, the Trans-Atlantic Boy Scout Council did a service project in 2002 - cleaning the shores of unnecessary trash, among other things. Many years later, you can still get a sense of what everyone went through from all sides.

Oh, I'll bet your senses can pick up on some mighty strange things there. Reminds me of a speech I like to watch from time to time given by Gen Mark Welsh to the USAFA…..where he talks about being in the Honor Court and being able to "hear" the bogey calls and waist gunners testing their guns…as well as being able to sense the fear……and feel the pride.

Yes, Sir! It gave me the goosebumps.

My oldest son in #13 is a USAFA 2011 graduate.
