After saving 5 points, I still needed a Special Tag for WY Unit 43, but had a great hunt. Started Thursday 10/16 taking inventory on a small section of the 70K acre ranch. It had rained night before and driving was a sliding challenge. We saw this buck 3 times; at 120 yds, 180 yds, 198 yds!!!! I was a little mad not to be able to get him then, but guide said it had to be 80" on first morning!!!! We found another one a little smaller that we passed at 196 yds. saw a few very unique bucks, one w/ real wide low horns and another with great bases, but horns going back like Harley Chopper Handlebars w/ No Cutters, another w Horns angling forward at 30 degree angle.
Second day it was blowing like mid 30's with gust up to 52 mph only getting worse next day! Since I'm a Southern Woods hunter, I thought hunting would be impossible but my guide Joe said, "naw". We back to look for our buck, get there it is blowing hard and where there had been hundreds of Antelope day before... the prairie was bare. Took about 30 mins, saw a group of 5, then saw him by himself at 850 yards. Slipped around a hill got to 198 yds , but he was walking away into a draw. Joe said lets get around and he will come out that draw, sure enough he walks out @ 354 yards, I was prone bipod & Backpack, on shot he runs right about 30 yds, down he goes. It was hit through both shoulders. Joe got a great video too.
Scored at 78 3/8, 14 3/8th length.
Used my old 257 Weatherby, 120 grain Sierra BTHP Game King - 3150 fps
Thank you Tyler Simms Outfitters - Great Guide/Antelope King Joe !!!!!!!
