We're currently in the process of finishing our new home and selling our current house , but I got to hunt yesterday .
Started off really slow . Never heard a bird till 9 am. There was 3 different birds over in the neighbors hay field strutting and gobbling at each other. It's on the side of a mountain. I got set up and started calling at them with a few different calls . Trying to mimic a few hens on my side of the fence. The one that was down low in the field would come within 150 yards of me but the other 2 stayed high for almost a hour.
After calling and scratching around in the leaves for a bit the lower bird had got to about 100 yards but still wasn't dead set on coming in when all of a sudden the bird highest up the mountain flew over and landed 80 yards from me in the woods on my side of the fence .
Apparently he couldn't stand the thought of the lower bird beating him to the hens . Just a few soft yelps and he was at 20 yards and down for the count. Craziest thing I've seen turkey hunting. I've had them fly off the roost to me but never across the field almost in my lap.
Not real sure what happened to his fan but still a beautiful creature
