Dumb Spotter Question

I recently bought a Swarovski ATS 65 and a Slik SVH-501 fluid head for my tripod. Do I use the plate that is permanently mounted on the ATS 65 to attach to the tripod head or do I attach the quick release plate that came with the fluid head to the bottom of the tripod first?

Most use the ARCA plate for a quick detach of the spotter as it is easier to carry. Some get an extra plate and mount it on their rifle so you can use the tripod for a rifle rest also.
