CO GMU521 2nd rifle season any advise?

Hey guys, me and a friend are going on our first ever elk hunt in Colorado this year and looking for any advise or helpful tips. We will have 2 rifle bull tags and are hunting unit 521 Gunnison nation forest area October 18-24th. Both in decent shape and willing to hike in deep if necessary. Thinking of staying near a trail head for first time out to learn area or if we need to move to a different area it wont be a big deal. We were thinking of hunting on the east side of Paonia state park near Ragged wilderness area. We have access to a camper, 4 wheeler and trailer. Our plan is to tent camp. Anybody? Any diy guys with any advise? Where does a guy start looking? Dark timber? Just above ridgeline? What is there primary food source that time of year. Thanks for advise. I have researched just looking for personal experience
