chronograph question

Well I was out shooting for load development again today. Intermittent sun and clouds. But I waited till the sun was just behind some treetops in the early evening. The light was pretty good and I had no trouble getting velocities back. I was pretty careful about setting up 10 ft from the muzzle to the first sensor and making sure the bore was aligned about 5-6 inches above the sensors. Worked out pretty good. I think the tip about bore alignment above the sensors was the ticket.

If you are planning on shooting being a life long hobby bite the bullet and invest in a MS or LR it will save you a ton of headaches by never having to worry about your chrono again, it will pay for itself as time goes by. A finicky unit can raise more questions than it answers. I would say it ranks up there with a good scale.

I have used and relied on a Chrony optical unit for years. I finally got a Magneto speed and was extremely surprised at the results when I used both simultaneously to compare. About a third of the time the readings between the two only varied by 2-3 FPS. Another third of the time the Chrony was reading 70-80 FPS higher.
Then there were several times the Chrony gave a ridiculous reading over 5000 FPS. Needless to say, the Magneto speed has been more accurate and reliable, I am sure that lighting variations affect the optical unit in a major way.
The only complaint I have with the Magneto speed is the strap they use to secure it to the barrel. I have had it tightened to the point where I am worried it will break and it seems like after two shots I have to retighten it.
