I have 3 doe tags and one buck tag to fill but I just don't have the desire to kill another deer with the rifle. My freezer can only hold one more deer from tags filled previously this year and I don't want to kill another just to say I did. I feel like that's not right. A full freezer and a cozy warm bed next to my honey seems a lot more inviting than sitting on a stand in 20* weather and 15 mph or more winds!
I've decided that I'm not going to shoot another deer until PA's late season (flintlock). Seriously I can go out any morning and shoot another doe with the CF and that's on public land. I just have a great vantage point.

I respect people with their own morals and etiquette much more than the person that will fill the tag just to say they did.
I get a little bit envious of the guys that get multiple deer tags every year.
I'm lucky to get a buck deer tag every 2-3 years and I have to choose my best odds between archery, rifle or muzzloader in a draw.
But I at least can get a elk tag almost every year not to mention a chance for a pronghorn tag.
It still would be nice to have multiple deer tags.

Come mid February when you're stir crazy and ready to do anything...even drive to Texas to shoot a pig just be hunting again, you'll look back on this opportunity and curse yourself for wasting the day you could have been in the field with a rifle in your hand and a tag in your pocket. You could can this one and keep it in the pantry. then you'll still have room for your smoke-pole deer in the freezer. just sayin.

must be nice
Come February I'll be down in Florida sipping on a cold one by my swimming pool probably with a venison steak thawing in the fridge!
And Staz yes it is nice. I'm 72 and killed a lot of deer. Sometimes just go out and watch them walk by. Getting one is nice but a lot of work once it's down.

Here in AZ tags are a little harder to come by. The 'must be nice' is the comparison to your opportunities compared to even getting the opportunity to hunt one time a year much less multiples.

It must really suck living in a state where your chance of getting a tag is slim. Here in PA you get a tag for a buck with your license. Also started this year all residents are guaranteed an anterless tag the first around. Then there are two more draws for what is available in a particular WMU. In the WMU where I reside I was able to get 3 anterless tags plus igot a DMAP tag where my camp is located so I could conceivably take 5 deer. More if I wanted to travel to another WMU where tags are almost unlimited!
I will probably have 2 unfilled tags by the end of all the seasons but that's by my choice.

In NC, where I usually hunt whitetails, the license includes 6 tags for whitetails. It used to be 2 buck tags, 2 doe tags and 2 "either" tags. Currently, it's 2 buck tags and four doe tags. Even though I have people who ask me for venison when I leave to go hunting, it's a rare time that I can actually use 6 deer. Most NC outfitters have their own rules & limitations which don't allow a 6 deer take anyway.

AZ guy here, too.
My last AZ Deer tag...2014.
My last elk tag...2017.
In 29 years of applying for pronghorn, 1 tag after a 27 year wait in 2023. Probably won't draw.another one until 2050.
I will possibly never draw an AZ sheep tag.

So Clem, don't take his comment as rude. It was a genuine comment from guys that don't have those opportunities in their home state.

Man that really stinks for a person that loves to hunt. To fill your desire and you freezer you have to travel and spend money for NR tags in other states. I feel sorry for you guys.

Michigan combo tag allows 2 bucks but one must have 4pt on side. Or can use for doe in archery. Doe tags cheap.

Deer herd is EHD wiped out do I was fortunate to kill buck but not going to shoot anything else in hopes letting even one doe to walk results in better herd next year. At 75, that is not easy.

must be nice
Haha. Yepper. I'm sitting here, all bummed, typing on a forum because I filled my 3 doe tags, and got my buck, all in about 3 weeks, with a month of season left and no more tags. I know I'm blessed, fortunate, and privileged, all in one, but i want to be out there freezing and wet again. I used to live in elk country and I miss it. I used to hunt them at home, and envy those that still do. I borrow my BIL'S freezer when mine gets full, and none goes to waste. But, to each their own. I just feel like I'm getting old for the amount of hunting plans(dreams) I have. I also do my share of sitting around being comfortable.
