Caliber and Barrel Length for New PD Barrel

Fifty, Thanks for posting those pictures of the 270W with 3 profile barrel, and the excellent groups it fired. It certainly looks a well balanced and nicely proportioned rifle, and highlights that a 26 inch barrel with similar profile should work well in my proposed .224 Clark.

It's amazing how we change with age, as about 30 years ago, I used 27 inch (or more) barrels on virtually everything, and thought nothing about lugging around the countryside a 17lb 22/284 with a 33 inch Ackley barrel and 1.250 inches at the muzzle.

Now I am feeling guilty about building a rifle with a 26 inch barrel with a 3 profile. Perhaps I should visit the Chemist and buy some viagra and steroids!

Also thanks for the advice on the Sako L61R action, you confirmed that my initial thoughts of a 280 AI were the best and most practical solution. Judging from the number of rave reports on this case, I have little doubt that it will give similar satisfaction to that of my 25/06 AIs over the last 18 years.

However, from the perspective of a Wildcatter for 35 years, I seem to be fighting an internal battle with myself, and although the 280AI is the most pratical, the radical streak within seems to be screaming "it's too easy", and look for something more potent and challenging.

Hopefully the "Dinghy' bringing the 224 & 257 Wildcat bullets (same as you just received) will soon dock in Oz, and I will be able to test those 130 and 142 grain bullets in my 25/06 AI.

Once again thanks for taking the time of giving us a gunsmiths perspective on your work, and for excellent advice and suggestions. I dearly wish you had a branch office in South Oz. Regards, Brian.
