Burnishing

Hi everyone,
My friend sent his new Remington rifle to the factory for some warranty work on the stock. When it was returned, there was a note on the service order that the chamber was burnished. What does this mean, how is it done, and why was this done when it was sent in for stock work? Any insight would be appreciated.

Technically, burnishing is accomplished by rubbing two surfaces together. Effects include a smoother surface, changed dimensions, and a harder surface....

Most likely means they polished the chamber. They might have done this if they noticed a rough surface finish or a tight chamber.
