My wife uses oxygen after some heart complications a few years ago. We were traveling when her oxygen machine quit working. We went to a sporting goods store and picked up a couple cans. A shot every once in a while got her through. It's also good for when flatlanders come to Wyoming and hunt at 6000 feet and above.

Depends on how big the shots are. Too much at once and you will get very light headed. I guess I can not answer that accurately.

Why would you get light headed from oxygen while at altitude ? It would be lack of oxygen that makes you light headed .

I was an offshore comercial diver ( um- over 35 years ago- that makes me feel old)--- and we trained in hyperbaric operation for surface decompression ( navy dive/sat tables) and oxygen treatment for "the bends" (decompression sickness)

We also "occasionally" used the chamber/oxygen to treat hangovers-- our O2 treatment training was 100% O2 @33' (2 atm or 29.4 psi) -- the medical studies show that only 1.3 people in 10000 will show signs of oxygen toxicity from 100% O2 treatment at 2atm---, the numbers go down drastically as pressure decreases ---- we never had any issues or side effects the whole time I worked offshore from any hyperbaric/O2 treatment sessions.

So if you were using 100% O2 at altitude it would be extremely rare to encounter ANY ill side effects ( probably something like 1: 1mil, but that's just a guess)

Why would you get light headed from oxygen?

I could definitely understand that ,extreme amounts of oxygen is actually toxic.

Read that again-- it says breathing molecular oxygen at INCREASED partial pressure --- not DECREASED

So that would be breathing oxygen at depth- not altitude

That makes sense to me. I guess I overlooked that part . when I heard about oxygen toxicity was when I became a certified diver at the age of 15 so it's been a while.
