I begin as usual apologizing if this is an old thread I did not find, but what is the best mechanical scale out there for around $200 or slightly more? Are there electric scales you guys trust to operate as well or even better? I tried an electronic scale once and I'm unsure if my house sitting on a foundation and wooden floors were the problems or what , but it would not read consistently. I have used an old, and I mean old RCBS 505 for thirty years and it has served me well, I keep it clean and covered (high school chemistry teacher pounded that in me) but I will be honest and admit it has gotten knocked over a few times in the last thirty years and it seems to be moving a little stiffly and instead of repairing it, new beam or agate, whichever is the problem I thought a little more advanced scale might work better shooting the longer distance. I would pay $500 if the guys that know say it's absolutely necessary, but if they say repair my old scale I would do that as well. Some of you good folks that know please respond and thank you.

You could take your scale and send it to Scott Parker,he can be found over on 6br. He will tune your scale for about $120.00 total between you shipping to him and return. It will be ALMOST as accurate as the $500.00+ AD scale. I believe for electronic scale the AD something or another 120, not sure on model number ( obviously ) is the best. :) If you look around on the AD price it will very a little.

It's the A&D FX120i, there's a place in Canada that ends up having the best price due to the exchange rate. Many can get by with the tuned 505

I looked it over and saw a thing or two that seemed a bit out of whack, made the adjustment and weighed a nickel, they are supposed to weigh 77.16 grains; of course the 505 only weighs 1/10 grain, but when I placed it on the scaled it was a tiny bit heavy for 77.1 and a tiny bit light for 77.2 grains. I am intrigued because I thought surely someone was making a scale better than the 505 for long range shooting, but it seems folks are satisfied with theirs as I did finally find some older threads.

I have 2 Reloading Scales. One is a Lyman D-5, I bought in Feb. 1966. About 10 years ago I bought a RCBS 10 10. Never had trouble but once years ago. I was at work and the story was my wife and son had got my scales out to weigh something for his school project !!!!!!!!!!. When I went to put it away the beam seemed to not be moving smooth. One of the knife balance edges looked like it had a small glitch in it. A few strokes of an fine Arkansas Stone cured the problem.

I have played around with some digital scales, But just do not trust them, When my face is in 3 inches of the bolt of a rifle.

high, I have a 505 I don't use much, like my 10-10, but some like the Dillon mechanical offerings. I use the digital on the RCBS powder thrower for .223 bulk, but don't trust it for accurate bolt gun loads.

Spend the extra money and get the A&D FX120I. I know several F Open shooters using this and they absolutely love it. I was talked into one about a year ago, and would never consider anything else.

Tony.

Take a look at the Gem Pro 250 good to 0.02 grain. Not too expensive either. May not be the absolute best, but way better than the traditional electronic reloading scales.

if it's in your budget , I agree with the other guys recommending the A&D FX120I . I really like mine . I'd guess I've had it about 4 years now . I bought from these guys . my credit card did the money exchange rate . I think it was shipped from a warehouse in Georgia . they have a little different process for buying from them , but it was an easy purchase .
