Good point. If that is the case, stacking a .060" meplat against a primer in front of it is pretty risky as well. Not sure if the rifle has that setup or not, but unless it is an old 99 Savage, it likely does ......Rich

Agree. This could add a whole new dimension to the meaning of exploding Bergers.
 
Sounds like the tip was damaged from the loading process or plugged at the shot somehow. I've had this happen with TSX barnes too. Only way to avoid this from occasionally happening is use tipped forced expansion bullets where impact drives bullet open. Even large mouthed hollow points can plug up and not expand.
