Behind enemy lines in CA. Need to escape. Need help

I am tossing around full time RV'ing, having my home base address in my native AZ, and just hunt and fish all over the mid and western US. That way If I set up camp next to a socialist I can just move to the next spot. There's a lot places to see and things to do as a retiree. It sure seems to be a viable option for other retirees on this thread.

Okay, I will just own this fact that I am a 4th gen Californian, but all generations have been Reagan style conservatives and are from rural CA. With that said, I just retired from Law enforcement and am looking for a safe semi rural place to raise my family. Gun rights are paramount, good big game hunting, and the ability to be left alone. I mind my own business, and don't ever want to turn the place i move to into California. Every state I look at, it seems they are not far from becoming blue. I lived in NV and would not even consider it now since the libs have a super majority there, with Reno and Vegas controlling the state.

I started to make my move to NV six years ago. My youngest daughter started her family and now my wife and I babysit three to four days a week. You guessed it. We are still in the communist state of CA. I OWN a home in NV but am questioning moving there. As it has been noted in other posts, NV just turned blue in the last election based mostly on the two major cities of Las Vegas and Reno. I am at a loss trying to figure out where I am going to move to. My wife is adamantly against living in the snow and I am so tied to my weapons that I don't want to go anywhere that I stand a chance of being a felon simply because I enjoy shooting.
In the rural area of NV that I have my house almost everyone is conservative. No problems with guns and close to the shooting range. Besides that I am only a couple of minutes from hundreds of thousands of acres of BLM land.
I really don't know what to do. Very distressing! I feel like I am running away from the problem only to leave it for my children and grandchildren.

I'm also a generations deep Californian and this will be the first year I will not be purchasing a hunting license here. I'm done with it here.

If it weren't for my kiddos, I would be in Wyoming. But Idaho and some parts of Montana are worth looking into. Same with Texas... Colorado, Nevada and Utah are past the point of no return.

From what I read and here, Texas is getting more blue by the day. I persoanlly feel the only thing that is ever going to get our once great republic back is an all out revoloution against the plague of Extreme Radical Leftism, Political In-correctness, Regressivism (aka progressive), and the virilant hatred for all things Christian.
It started over four decades ago with the dumbing down of America, the Feminazi movement and the Timothy Leary types generation of "educators" brainwashing our youth. The mental illness of Liberalism seeks only to shred the very fabric of all thigs good our founding fathers created. Number one, remove the 1st Ammendment. Number two, eliminate the second so the 1rst can't be defended against the Tyranical Depots.

Good luck finding your deminishing Slice of Red in a land of ever increasing Blue.
Rant over.

I'm likely an anomaly here - I'm a total liberal, but I love guns, shoot, reload, carry, and hunt. Don't fish so much because I currently live in the mountains and don't care for freshwater fish. Mostly me and my liberal gun friends just want to be left alone. My biggest issue ie people. Every where I go, there's more and more. Last bow-hunt I had there were hikers, mountain bikers, wood cutters, and grazing permit cattle everywhere even after a day's hike into a wilderness area. Long gone are the days that I could hunt public land anywhere and never see another person. That said, my vote is for Wyoming or northern Idaho, although the more time I spend in Texas, it looks like I just may decide to retire there.
It's confusing to me that you would be pro gun but vote liberal, see your guns disappear, grazing I see you have a problem with so evidently don't know the good for the Enviroment it does, fire suppression for one.

It's been said after the mass exodus of Californians leaving that empire it will be grand again. A stretch speculation but good for you Californians that are fighting back! Never thought the Jefferson concept could be pulled off but the possible window is now. Many of us bordering state residents have a lot of respect for determined California sportsmen and women. Good for you !!

Why is it always Californians? I have lived in MT for 40 years (my parents moved from ND when I was 3) so am by all intents and purposes pretty much a native. I moved to SW MT from central MT in the mid 90s and was pretty much in heaven. The proximity of outdoor opportunities was absolutely mind boggling. I have seen a slow degradation progressing to a rapid degradation of those opportunities, especially in the last few years. Real estate is out of control here, out of state license plates are rampant, and the mentality around here is decidedly left. I can remember all my friends fearing the "california invasion" when I was in college and it seemed like that wasn't much of a possibility. Now it's here. Interestingly, a friend of mine who I shoot with is from California. He basically fled the state due to most of what has been discussed previously. I guess it wouldn't bother me as much if most of the folks coming here were of that mindset, but it isn't. I see the shift in local politics happening at an alarming rate, and would consider myself in the minority from a political standpoint where I am at now. Defnitely some interesting times we are living in now. I think with the prevalence of social media it is only going to get worse, and that is disturbing to say the least.

Wow! Seven pages of comments in one day -- you have really hit a nerve. I guess most of us feel the same way.

I'm a transplanted Californian, but that was LONG ago -- I left in 1965. Lived around the world for 30 years, retired to OH, then moved to northern NV 15 years ago. I love the scenery here (live just over the hill from Lake Tahoe), but you are right, this state has turned blue.

Lots -- and I mean LOTS -- of retired Californian LEOs in my neighborhood. And more coming all the time -- one just moved in across the road.

I think (maybe I should have said I hope) that our blue status is an aberration. Harry Reid had a lot to do with it, as did a lot of poor union workers in the Las Vegas area. Harry will be gone soon, and if we are lucky our state Republican Party will get its act together. (Yeah, I dream a lot.) One thing in our favor is that Governor Sisolak is pushing his agenda pretty hard, and most of the state doesn't like it.

I fished in MT last summer, and thought to myself if I were 20 years younger I'd move there right now. But the winters are hard to believe and I'm too old for that. My family is gradually settling in southern OH and neighboring WV, so I'll probably end up moving there in the next two years, and end my years wishing I had bought Hespco's place (see page two of this conversation). Sounds beautiful. But it is Colorado!

Good luck.

Would my LEO brothers stand with the constitution or be more interested in their pension and paycheck?

I've had this conversation with my officers, before I retired. In a group setting, they said they will support the constitution. I think a majority of the older LEOs would but I am uncertain with the younger ones. Some older officers are more concerned with their pensions and paycheck. Some younger officers are more pro 2nd amendment than some of the older ones. Nothing is a completely safe bet and as in society, there are many opinions and backgrounds. If the administration was pro constitution, the troops will be so as well, but it really depends on LEADERSHIP. But what if the admin is not pro 2nd amendment? Who will stand up? Talk is cheap and I know plenty of spineless officers who suddenly become quiet when the brass is around.

When I went through the police academy for a large metropolitan city in Southern California, there was ZERO mention of the 2nd amendment. I received moderate training about the constitution in my career. I would get California Penal Code clarifications and legal opinions but nothing substantial about the constitution.

Bottom line is this. Some officers will support the constitution and some will not. In many ways LEOs are representatives of your community. If your community is pro constitution, pro 2nd amendment your cops will be as well, but if your community is not, it becomes harder to predict.

I know some great cops that work for San Francisco PD and LAPD that are pro second amendment, but they have a culture as well. Leadership is the defining issue, as is in life.

Pretty grim outlook guys. It is the mind control of the media that is causing this. The younger generations are the demographic that are drowned in liberal propaganda and being kept from understanding history and the world in our schools. But I know lots of fools in their 50s who also have the mental defect that is infecting the country. I'm loosing friends left and right (well not the right ones) because the liberal ones can't keep their stupid opinions to themselves. I'm from the Golden State and what has evolved disgusts me. The superficial thinking and lack of real world perspective is alarming. Facebook driveby sarcasim has replaced real debate.
I have lived in Texas for the last 3 years. The weather sucks and there's little public land, but the economy is booming. It hasn't gone blue yet but is on the verge of it. Beto almost won!! He's more of an idiot than the left thinks Trump is, but he almost won!! If California's mold of firearms restrictions happens, there could be an insurrection.
Mr. retired LEO, would your still-working buddies be part of rounding up and imprisoning otherwise law abiding American citizens who violate these laws, just for their f*ing paychecks and retirement benefits? If the answer is yes, f* them. They are part of the problem, basically acting as mercenaries for the leftists. The ones I know would not. It seems like we may be headed for civil war.
I had a friend for a decade. Met him working armored cars. Trained him in pistol craft before he bought his first handgun. Worked as a security contractor with him for years. When he became a San Diego County Sheriff deputy he changed. Long story short, one day he made a statement. "If we come for your guns, just give them up. Because you don't stand a chance against us." A long conversation ensued about what the plan was if confiscation orders were issued. He changed. He had been changed. From the friend I had to an authoritarian. I told him I didn't want friends like him. It's the last conversation we had. People who think that there are Americans that would never repeat the horrors of history by enforcing tyranny, disarming their fellow citizens, and killing resistors, are fools. And remember for every traitor going door to door confiscating guns, there will be 20 Antifa rabid leftists backing him up.

He was brain washed by Sheriff Bill Gore. The anti conceal carry jerk. Hope you educated you ex friend that's the very reason there is a 2nd admendment. Tyranny rings a bell ?

I've been in the fight for gun rights, hunting rights, and other conservative values. I have written so many letters to my elected officials, been to public hearings, organized resistance and such for decades. Now, I am just flat out feel defeated. I just want to live the rest of my life out in some sort of conservative valued peaceful place where I am not considered "different".
Dam you sound just like me. Want you as my neighbor!
