Ar load question

I have a 1-7 twist 18" barrel shooting 55 grain vmax bullets. 26.5grains of Varget and only getting 2800 - 2850 fps.

What are some better powder choices? Or bullet? Built it for coyotes.

I had some really good loads with Varget in 223, but once CFE223 came out I switched and Varget gets used in other guns.....W748 and CFE223 are what I'd try if I were you.

Just what he said, w748 or blc2 basically the same powder should break 3k

H335 or H4895 have done well for me.

H335 is your answer. Save the varget for bigger cases

CFE 223 is probably your friend. Benchmark and TAC are other options. Used to use a 40gr vMax over a max charge of Benchmark for coyotes. Bang flop on the ones I killed with that load. It was doing 3,350fps out of a 16" barrel.

I use BLC2 for my .223 in my AR pushing a 55 gr and a 69 gr SMK and get great groups...very similar to CFE223

As other have mentioned cfe 223 is your best bet. Xbr8208 is another great option

I'm loading up 2500 rds for a pd hunt this coming June
I'm using 2 AR's & 2 bolt guns , the AR's are 16 " HB
and a 20" BB , the round i choose for across the board is a
55 gn BTSP & H335 powder , the load is 25.0 and the
aol is 2250 my chrono fps are. this is with 10 shot groups
for a average fps .
16 inch barrel 2912 fps sd were 51 fps
20 inch barrel 3078 fps sd were 25 fps

this may give you another idea on H335
