6.5 PRC with N560 or Retumbo

If you can find N565, get some to try. I had all intentions of running H1000 until I tried the N565. It seems to work very well with the 156. YMMV
I have a bunch of n560 so I am trying to find a good use for it. Guys have been saying it runs similar to RL26 in the 6.5prc.

Wasskeet, are you using a drop tube? I found N565 to be compressed and didn't pursue that powder. Went with N560. Mind sharing load data?

Rhett,
I'm not using a drop tube....yet. Presently loading 55gr (pretty light load) of N565 in Lapua brass with 210 primer and 156 EOL. Initially this was the bottom rung of a ladder I loaded. First group pictured below. After seeing how accurate it was vs 55.5, 56.0, 56.5 - I quit and pulled the rest. Gotten multiple 5-shot groups in 7" range at 1000 from factory Bergara HMR Pro.

Hope this is a help to you.

Gotcha. What are you getting for MV if you don't mind.

56.4 gr of N560, 210gm, 156 Berger. SD 3 ES 7, 2994fps average. No pressure signs. .3 gr below max load. I think I found a winner.
Sorry, I know this is old but I'm making the jump from RL26 to N560. Do you mind telling me what brass you were using with that load?

This was load was with Hornady brass. Like many others on this forum, I have found that when using thicker brass like ADG or Lapua I needed to shave .5gr or so from the load.

My 20 inch proof barrel pressured out with N565 and with RL26. H1000 seemed to be the winner with both the 156 and 144 Bergers. 210 primers with Hornady brass. 2940fps with the 144 and 2890fps with the 156. I have a 22 inch barrel SAC that loves the 156 and H1000 but I have not loaded N565 in it yet so that rifle may like it?

TAZMAN: thanks very much for the 6.5 PRC info. I just bought a brand new SAKO S20 Hunter in 6.5 PRC and I am ready to start testing loads soon. It is shooting and grouping factory Hornady Precision Hunter 143gr ELD-X loads VERY well so I can't wait to start loading those same bullets in my loads. I have some Lapua brass and my powder inventory to try is: Alliant PP4000MR, 7977, N560, 7828SSC, Winchester StaBall HD, RL25, and LRT. Based on burn rate charts I think the LRT is going to be too slow. My gut is telling me the sweet spot is going to be between N560, PP4000MR, and StaBall HD. Any thoughts or "pet loads" from anyone shooting a 24" barrel 1:8 twist would be greatly appreciated. Thank you guys.

I run 59 grains of H1000 with Hornady brass and 156 Berger's in my SAC 22 inch barrel. In my 20 inch Proof Barrel I run 55 grains H1000 with 144 Berger and CCi 200 primer. I would start lower and work up but Lapua brass will require less powder to achieve the same velocity as compared to Hornady brass so start lower.
