Not long range, but thought you might like to see it.
Found a 480 cylinder the other day so got this project started last night. Lots of finish work yet. Grip frame needs reshaping and haven't decided on sights...kinda like it bobbed tho. Like a "chopper". Probably will grind the hammer a bit. If I cant get it comfortable I'll put bisley kit on it, but I'm going more for light and handy than lotta shooting. Thought I'd hate the blue/stainless mix and planned on nickel plating, but I kinda like it. Haven't decided. Barrel is McGowan 1:10. 3.7" stub from a rifle I built.
Reamed the cyl to 1.450 and honed throats to .4755 yesterday. Bubba did the trigger for us before I got the poor thing so that'll need a redo... push on the hammer and it drops. Not great but shouldn't be hard to fix. Gotta clip that trigger too to save my finger. Might bob it way back and clip the guard.
Gonna be a handful with full power 525gr cast, so itll probably get fed lots of 275gr.

Cyl fit and timed

Think The finish is done. Cut final 1/4" offthe muzzle and crowned. Scratches are from me hamhanding it while installing bead.

Front sight. The facet is bright even in twilight. Not sure where itll end up heightwise but I made it as tall as I could stand and hopefully it needs filed down more. I dont know if the bead will be final. For now I like it. another facet cut steeper yet will give me a top point, centerline, and bottom point of aim, butstill shine enough to see in the dark with griz incoming

35.2oz empty, 43oz loaded with 525gr. I carried it around in a don Hume pancake all day while working. I think itll be about 40 when I'm done.

Roughed in the grip frame and cut a set of factory stocks to fit my hand. Much better feel. Bit of welding and filing to do later on, but I think im happy with the gripframe contour. Pretty close to #5/bisley feel in my hand, a bit shorter.

Jar of stock finish I like. Refill to the lid after each time I use it and it hasn't cured any in the jar. Mix 1/3 turpentine, 1/3 coldpressed linseed, 1/3 epiphanes sparvarnish in glass and add 2 or 3 big spoonfuls of paprika. The natural red is way less "red" than paint dies and doesn't mute the prism effect the way pigments do. Linseed slows cure down so I have more than 2 minutes to get it soaked, coat it even with a swab (long way) or slurry it with 800grit(shortcut), then squeegee the Excess off with a card or driver license, filling pores. Turp dissolves (not "thins") the resins into the oil so they work as a slower resin/faster oil without any "buildup" look. It also draws better. Turpentine is a penetrating oil like wd40 and BP blaster. It creeps well. Mineral spirits dont. It's a thinner (not disolver). That stuff is more like a liquid wax than an oil. Sucks.
After an hour, I rub the excess off. With a t shirt material Wrapped on a dowel. Takes off the excess, leaving pores full. Cure a few hours and do it again.

5th coat. Pores are filled and the prism effect is showing some. "A coat a day for a week, a coat a week for a month, then a coat a month for a year" is how you do oil. My mix let's me do up to 3 coats a day and done in about a week, ready for wax. I'm not doing anything fancy to these but cant leave them unfinished. I wanted to checker a bit but they are pretty soft. Doubt it.
