When I started shooting 300gr bullets from my Ruger SRH pistol, all the bullets impacted high. I had to use a taller front sight to bring the POI down.

Just something to note.

That's because the gun is recoiling while the bullet is still in the bbl, due to more power, my 44 are all scoped. Was considering using this load on a idaho bear hunt

My bear hunting club killed a lot of black bears with 250 gr. Keith SWCs that I loaded for them. Any bullet from 250 to 310 should work on bears providing it has a big, flat nose. I shoot 250-310 gr. bullets in my Ruger Redhawk with good sight adjustment for all of them. Just depends on the gun, type of front sight, and barrel length. Better find a few to try before you buy.

I tried 300 gr. RNFPs in my M629 revolvers. In addition to impacting high, they had a tendency to creep forward in the cases even with brand new brass and strong roll crimps. I gave up on them and went back to "Keith style" 250 grain bullets. Never had any problems.

Has anyone ever loaded or seen data for vihtavuori n3hs powder in 44 mag? I bout an unopened 4# jug at an auction and it has hand written loads from you 9mm to 44 mag that I don't trust. It was discontinued in 2007 and no info online. Anybody have old books?

Does anyone know if these 305 grain HSMs will stabilize in a Marlin 94 with 1:38 twist?

I don't know the velocity but I killed 3 North Idaho black bears with 21 grs. of 2400 (Alliant) behind a Speer 240 gr. Magnum Soft Point bullet. They were flat nose bullets, I don't know if they are still available but Nosler makes a similar bullet in the same weight. All 3 bears were DOA . This was with a Model 29 S&W 44 Magnum.

Post falls huh? I was just up there for the gun show. I come up there every month or so. I'm just looking for real world experience on this. Thanks, that helps a lot. I've got a bunch of the handloads in the 240 Nosler, maybe I'll use that.

Lehigh WFN bullets work great on game. I don't have a .44, but I use them in my .480 Ruger SRH.
Garrett also makes some really effective bullets for .44 mag, as well as loaded ammo for same.

I just bought a CVA Scout in 44mag loading Lehigh Defense Xtreme Penetrator 250gr H110 20.0gr this is some BADASS rounds

I've had good luck with these folks with both rifle and pistol ammo. Haven't shot this load: Underwood Ammo - 44 Remington Magnum 305gr. Long Flat Nose Gas Check Black Cherry Coated Hard Cast Hunting Ammo

They rate it 1325 fps. One user measured and had a little higher velocity. Might give you an idea how a load like that would shoot in your gun, then load your own.
