A hunting buddy bought a Savage Long Range Hunter in 338 Lapua for a Kodiak Island Bear hunt he has been saving money for a decade. Figured I'd ask the pros here, I got a one hole "Honey Load" here from JD338 for my 338RUM and 300RUM but Robbie bought the Lapua instead. Staying with the 300 gr Accubond, been hunting with them forever and Nosler Solid Base bullets before Accubond were made. He has a 26" barrel so either H1000 or Retumbo. I use Retumbo in mine so that is what he bought when we finally found it. My 338RUM load is a 250 gr Accubond though so this is new territory for me. From what I am seeing looks like 89.5-90 gr of Retumbo looks like the number but sure wanted to ask the pros first. Thanks for any help.

I'm shooting a Savage 110HS in .338 LM, 26" barrel. I settled on 91.5 grains of retumbo with 300 grn SMK's I was starting to get pressure signs on brass that had been loaded several times. It also groups well with that load as well, about 1/2" (.516) at a 100yds.
I have also had good luck with 225 Accubonds, 95 grns Retumbo, 2970 FPS avg, and usually a one hole group at 100 (.333 center to center). 97 grns gave me 3072.9 FPS and about the same group size slightly larger.

Thanks so then we'll start at 89.5 and go 1/2 gr incriments up to your load. That sure helps, and gives us a high end to work to.

300 accubond is the ticket in my mind for brownies, shot this 9 footer at 700 yds with 338 lap and 300ab lung shot went all way through weighed 280 gr also shot an aoudad in spine at 50 yds and got 50% wt retention. Accubond gives you the best of all worlds, expansion, retention, and entrance hole for blood trail

I have both a 338 Lapua and 338 RUM and I use H1000 in both of them

The Lapua is AR 30 little heavy for carry gun.......but very accurate.

My 338 RUM is a Rem 700 XRC2 that I customized...I have a outstanding load of

338 RUM
H1000 @ 76.0
230 Fail Safe
3000 FPS
1/2" groups.......very nice
