300 wsm from a 300 wm?

Hey all,
Newbie here.
I'm looking to get a 300 wsm, but the factory options are pretty limited. Could I buy a 300wm and just swap out barrels or is it a little more complicated then that? Thinking the Bergara HMR. Or should I just stick to the 300wm? I'll be reloading for this rifle and it will be my primary elk hunting rifle.

If you go that route use a tikka it's simple to do and all you need is a mountain tactical wsm magazine.
Plus it's much better action precise enough for prefit barrel.
With a bdl style magazine you'll have to open the feed lips.

I have three .300 WMs and two .300 WSMs - both are no slouch with hand load. It boils down to your personal preference. The .300 WM remains my go-to chambering for antelope to elk-sized game up to 1KY.

It would be the same as a Remington 700 at that point.

I did the Tikka 300wm to 300 wsm and I'm using a factory CTR stock and mag. Just had to adjust the lips to feed the fatter case.

It's been fine. Kicks less than the 300wm did. I've been trying to get a super varmint stock so I can take advantage of loading longer, but factory ammo runs fine through the CTR mag as well.

My Sako M995 300 WM is about ready for a new barrel. I am going to stay with that chambering. Itbis oh so easy to get a good load.
