Ok. I just like to see all shots touching one another.

A lot depends on the rifle too Brad. Mine is a production Bergara HMR with zero aftermarket work. That's the way it shoots right out of the box. I may just be shooting too fast not allowing cool time between. One of the responders mentioned that above.

I came down to my gun room after watching some videos on "tips for improving accuracy on the HMR."
As I was removing the action to polish the bedding blocks I found out my front action screw was really loose. That was very likely the main reason for the flyers.
I polished the blocks and tightened the screws to the recommended 55 inlbs.

Good idea Boise. I'm waiting for more bullets to come in and I just may do that.

I was using H1000 but I'm having better luck with H4350.
I was about to give up on this rifle until I switched bullets. I started out shooting 215 gr Nosler RDFs and they shot terrible no matter the powder, charge or seating depth. I'd occasionally get a sub MOA group but they were flukes as most groups were closer to 2" ! Every other bullet I tried I could get it to shoot MOA pretty consistently: Barnes, Berger and Hornady. I'm liking these 208 gr ELD-Ms and will probably settle on them because of how they are shooting and the high BC.

Have tryed both and "for" me, the H-1000 @ 79.5 gr with a 180 gr SST, or Nos, BT Or similar BT, also using the LRMag Primer. Just for me. Find your's, and good luck!

Hey I'm with you. I have quite a few Savage Axis rifles and all shoot under MOA. Now it took some work developing a load they like. My little 6 ARC is 0.5 MOA and shot some groups as small as .27"! Its my new favorite rifle...LOL

Your targets may show otherwise but according to Berger stability chart the 215s are only marginally stabile at 2900 fps.

Your targets may show otherwise but according to Berger stability chart the 215s are only marginally stabile at 2900 fps.

Seems to be right at the cusp of marginal and stable. 1.51. Maybe that's why the slower velocity groups didn't group as good as the 2900fps groups?

But look at the temp that day, 8F. What the F. was I thinking!?

I have a Bergara B-14 that really likes the Berger 200.20X and H-4831 combination. I'm getting about 2,900 fps, and I didn't even have to do any seating-depth testing—just set it .010" off the lands and it shot like a dream

Most of your groups appear to have two close together and one set apart. How long do you allow yhe barrel to cool between shots and shot strings?

Ran a heat test today after properly torquing my action screws. See target. First 2 shots touching the the 3rd 3/4" lower. 45 seconds or so between shots. It was 32* today so without changing anything I let the rifle set for 3 mins while I went and took a leak. Figuring that was enough cool time I fired one more round in the group and it came back to shots 1 and 2. A 0.5 MOA group I'll take any day.

Glad it all came together for you. Like many problems, the solution was multi-faceted and now you know alot more about your rifle. Good shooting btw.
