270 wsm

I was pluggin in some random numbers. Maybe I'm way off, but I was hoping I could get 2900fps with the 169g uld out of a 270 wsm and a 26" tube. I estimated the BC to be .75?? Maybe someone can help me out on that. Anyways, with those numbers put in the ballistics program, its still traveling 2000fps and has 1500 ft lbs at 800 yards. I think thats plenty for elk. It will also be easily 1000 yard deer and coyote combo. Now the velocity might be high and the BC might be high, but if I"m close to those numbers, its pretty amazing at what it does. Will do the same thing as my 300 RUM with 25g less powder.

.740 is the bc we've used and it is very close. Keep in mind that this is @ 3400 fps as well.

I'm not sure you'll get 2900 fps but you shouldn't be far off it. Hodgdon shows 2989 fps for a 160 gr partition w/Retumbo.

Maybe if you had Kirby make it a 270-7mm wsm. the 7mm wsm has a little more case capacity

[/ QUOTE ]I actually had Kirby make one of these for me last year it has slightly less powder capacity than a 7mm wsm because it is based off a Norma 270 wsm case necked up to 7mm. it might be just what you are looking for remingtonman (I read your other post "Kirby" in gen. dis) Kirby made mine on a long Sako action that I had so that there are no magazine length issues. his reamer has a long throat so you can utilize all the powder capacity, so far the only bullet I have used has been the 160gr Accubond that shoots at 3190fps (200fps faster than factory 7mmRem Mag barrel it replaced) I really wanted to use a higher B.C. bullet so I bought some Berger 168gr VLD's they wont even come close to touching the lands so I then got some Berger 180gr VLD's perfect fit and they have a B.C. of .684!!! (highest of any Berger VLD) plus they will work with a 1-9" twist. I think if you want to use the 200gr wildcat you need a faster twist but the reamer I believe was specificaly made for this bullet so that xphunter and others could use them in specialty pistols.
.684B.C. at about 3000fps something to consider,let us know what you decide.

I got a box of 169.5 wild cat bullets for my 270 AI. I didn't think that 3000 fps would even be a problem out of my 29 inch barrel.

The 270 WSM has about the same powder volume.
