I asked the same questions in the main forum, maybe I should have asked it here.

I have a .25-06 with a 12 twist 26" barrel. I'll be shooting at prairie dog up to about 600 yards with most shots probably between 150-300. My main concern is getting a bullet that will explode on impact, whether that with a p-dog or the dirt. I'll be shooting around livestock, houses and roads so I want to minimize the ricochet' as much as possible.

I'd also like the highest BC I can get for the rare 600+ yard shot as well a bucking the wind.

Are there any secrets I should know, or do I load up a 75g A-Max as hot as possible and call it good?

I have never shot P-dogs because there are none in my part of the country. I do shoot ground hogs at considerable distance. I use the Sierra 87 gr spitzer with 52.2 grs IMR 4350 for around 3300 fps in my 1 n 10 twist Shilen barrel 25-06 and it will scatter a ground hog all over the place. I have a buddy that uses the 75 gr Sierra HP with 49.0 grs IMR 4064 for around 3600 fps in his rifle. Both loads are very accurate and red mist city on ground hogs.
