...

Actually it should still be the parents job. They are their children, not mine. I know when I was a kid I knew that "I" was the one who would get in trouble if I was doing something I wasn't supposed to. Sure access to some media is easier nowadays with the internet. But any kid who really wanted to could find a way to access dirty magazines, or alcohol, drugs, whatever back when we all were kids. But I knew if I got caught it was my hind end that was going to get tanned, my parents weren't going to go whining to some hotel clerk.

And while I don't know anything about filters I'm pretty sure they could buy just a pornography filter if they were that worried about "the children". The only reason I can think of anyone not wanting children to look at "gun sites" is because they are rabidly anti-2A and want to brainwash children. It isn't like they are going to get hurt because they read about the muzzle velocity of a 220 Swift!

And while I don't know anything about filters

Very apparent. Keep blaming corporations and antigunners for those things that you don't know anything about........ my only point in typing anything is this thread, is before you call out companies for being anti 2A, maybe see if there is a another reason for what happened. I bet that an IT guy somewhere took the easy route and used preset filter settings which someone else has set all up and hit apply. It probably has nothing to do with Wyndham the company. I may be wrong but I have seen this happen many times when using preset security/filters.

Btw, do you guys have kids old enough for devices and phones? Just curious.....

so because a kid might get on a porn site, the hotel needs to block possible gun sites as well? i have 2 kids, one more on the way. i do not plan on assuming that the places i go are going to be looking out for their well-being as that is my job.

my company's VPN does the same thing though. i can't get on most gun sites. their rules though.

One should never assume....especially with children, But I think it's a safe guess that the resort wants to portray themselves as a family friendly environment, so it seems likely they might have some filters?? ( Its their business, just like your work right- Is the company you work for anti 2A?)
Now, who writes and program filters/software???? While they are very sharp individuals, they talk in code and equations and their logic isn't always our logic.
Logic to them is
"Gun Violence" = "Gun" "Violence" so if ones bad, both are bad.

All I'm saying is it's pretty normal for ok sites to get sucked into block filters based on key words or whatever logic is in the filter......depending on what level of filtering is chosen. So you are left to choose a balance of blocking vs accessibly.

I still haven't seen Wyndham publicly put down the 2A?????? Does this mean any company that has gun sites blocked at work is anti 2A??:p

I don't know why I'm sticking up for Wyndham.....I stayed at one last summer and vowed never again! Just not my style though, not because the WIFI.:)

Ckgworks,
As I said I don't know anything about filters, and my main point was simply that I don't think they should have them. But, if they are going to have them the only way that they are going to change what gets filtered and what doesn't is by feedback from their customers. If a bunch of people complain that they can't get on their favorite hunting/gun sites and won't be staying at the motel again unless that is changed. Well, unless they are anti-2A they will likely change it to protect their business.

I don't know anything about filters, but I'm pretty sure that if it is going to have enough of a negative effect on their business they will find a way to not block these sites while still blocking most of the other sites they want to block. It may cost more, but if it is cost effective (as in prevents a large drop in customer base) most businesses will find a way.

And I don't even use wifi. . . so of course we are the two posting about it :)

I know, I don't usually connect to other peoples WIFI either.......I'm just going to shut up and ignore this. The immediate knee jerk reaction to say someone/company is anti 2A because of a filter on there WIFI kinda got in my craw......... I agree: Complain to management and you might get positive change. Posting that the entire company is Anti 2a??? Probably not going to get positive change.
Out!
